How should you follow the story objectives?

The Village in the Shade walkthrough is best treated as a sequence of quest objectives rather than a guaranteed day-by-day route. Start by learning the village routine, complete the required Helping tasks, and report back whenever a quest tells you to do so. The later story is organized around the village Rules, with several nighttime investigations and tool or material checks.

Cover context: Official Japanese promotional screenshot of nighttime exploration in the original 2026 game. General story-exploration context; it does not identify a specific Rule objective, a quest trigger, an ending, or a current English patch result.

This is a quest-data-supported progression guide, not a tested English playthrough. The objective names below are editorial summaries of translated Japanese/Chinese labels from an unofficial Steam build extraction. The records show tasks and revisits, but they do not prove exact calendar timing, a universal branch order, choice consequences, or the number of endings.

Before following the story route

Use the normal daily-life loop to prepare between story objectives: farm, gather, fish, hunt, craft, and help villagers. The official system overview confirms that crops can be grown and shipped for income, while gathering, fishing, hunting, crafting, relationships, festivals, and the eight village Rules all contribute to the game’s wider routine (official daily-life systems).

Keep enough time and stamina for travel. A quest may appear complete when you deliver an item, but its next objective can require a separate report or a return visit. Check the active objective after every conversation instead of assuming the arc has ended.

Early preparation checklist

Check Why it matters
Keep basic gathering and crafting supplies Several Helping quests ask for collected materials or a repaired object.
Improve tools when the game makes an upgrade available Later objectives include blocked paths, rock removal, tree cutting, and the Gold Axe requirement.
Track nighttime objectives separately Rules I, III, IV, V, VII, and VIII include explicit night or time-window tasks.
Read the active objective before a major conversation or choice The evidence does not establish the consequences of every choice.

For broad system advice, use the Village in the Shade guide rather than treating this story hub as a replacement for farming, combat, or house-planning guides.

Opening orientation and the Helping sequence

The early progression is built around helping villagers. The extracted records show a repeating pattern: perform a local task, deliver the requested item or result, report to the relevant villager, and then visit a follow-up location if one is listed.

The Helping records include tasks for Sumire, Kisuke, Hasumi, Sazanka, Yoh, Komako, Rokkaku, Tobari, Konno, Chinana, Shiroji, and Yuta. Their requirements are not all the same. Examples include collecting a purple flower for Sumire, breaking rocks near a mountain camp for Kisuke, gathering angelica for Hasumi, bringing five copper ores to Sazanka, helping Yoh catch a yamame, and delivering Rin’s lunch and reporting back to Rokkaku.

The objective records support these functional steps, but they do not provide reliable rewards, delays, or exact English UI wording. Treat the following as a practical checklist rather than a complete database.

Use the Helping Tickets checklist for all twelve item, location, report, and follow-up sequences. This story hub focuses on the transition from those tasks into the Rule arcs. If an objective names a tool upgrade, use the Anvil and tool-upgrade guide to plan materials.

Rule I and Rule II: breaking the routine, then finishing Helping

Rule I: go outside late at night

The first story Rule is the prohibition on going outside after 11 p.m. Its supported objective is straightforward: break the rule by going outside late at night.

Do not interpret this as proof of a particular calendar date or exact trigger. When the quest is active, check the time and leave the expected safe routine at night. If the objective does not update, verify that the current objective concerns Rule I and that you have not mistaken a general nighttime activity for the story objective.

Rule II: complete the village’s Helping work

Rule II is the major early progression check. The quest record requires you to:

  1. Use all available Helping tickets.
  2. Report to Rin that all the helping is complete.
  3. Deliver the commissioned items to the catalog at the chief’s estate.
  4. Report to Rin again after the catalog delivery.

The key point is the second report to Rin. Delivering the catalog items is not the final step in the record. Afterward, return to Rin and confirm that the commission list has been collected.

The data does not establish which individual Helping record must be completed first, how many in-game days each task takes, or whether every unrelated villager activity is required. Follow the active ticket list and use the quest log as your completion check. The order of records in the extracted file should not be treated as proof of a global branch-order rule.

Story spoilers below: The next sections identify later objectives, investigations, and the final choice setup. Stop here if you only need the early-game Helping route.

Rule III is a longer investigation with multiple return visits. The practical route is:

  1. Ask Rin for the library key.
  2. Collect two units of sour sap.
  3. Give both units to Hasumi.
  4. Search for Nago’s wallet at night.
  5. Follow Tobari and Komako during the chicken chase.
  6. Visit the library.
  7. Find the missing books at night and return them to Nago.
  8. Visit the clock tower.
  9. Try the “miracle whistle” sequence: blow the whistle, then use it on the chicken.
  10. Go at night to the place with the peach tree.
  11. Follow the active objective to the Kodama tree and cut it down.
  12. Return Nago’s wallet and then visit Nago to receive the thanks.

The extracted objectives do not provide a tested route through the areas, a precise clock-tower interaction, or a guaranteed explanation for every investigation step. If the sequence pauses, re-check whether the current task asks for a nighttime visit, a specific NPC report, or a return to a previously visited location.

Rule III supply check

Requirement Minimum supported by the record Practical check
Sour sap for Hasumi 2 Gather both before attempting the delivery
Library access Library key from Rin Ask Rin when the objective is active
Nago investigation Wallet and missing books Expect separate night searches and returns
Peach-tree sequence Night visit and tree cutting Bring a usable axe and confirm the active objective

The quantity of sour sap comes from the quest-data snapshot. It is not a current-patch or console retest.

Rules IV–VI: secrets, the pass, and the deep mountain

Rule IV: investigate the secret and clinic sequence

Rule IV begins with a key objective: take the key from Konno’s room. The supported sequence then sends you to Tobari’s home at night, asks you to uncover Rin’s secret, investigate the corridor where Rin disappeared, and return to ordinary life.

After that pause, the objectives ask you to pursue the fox, go to the clinic where Rin is located, and remain beside Rin. The record supports these story beats and revisits, but not the exact solution to the investigation or any consequences beyond the listed objectives.

Rule V: lantern at the mountain pass

Rule V concerns leaving the village. At night, carry a lantern into the mountain pass and meet Sumire at its deepest point. Then ask about the situation at the clinic and help Sumire.

“Mountain pass” and the related pass/thicket wording here are editorial translations for clarity. They are not claims about verified English location names. Use the map and active objective text rather than relying on a literal translated place name.

Rule VI: Yoh, the bridge, and the abandoned house

Rule VI sends you to the deep-mountain bridge to look for Yoh. The record then requires another visit to the opposite side of the bridge, an investigation of the sound source in an abandoned house, and a conversation with Rokkaku at the restaurant. Finally, return to the other side of the bridge to investigate the sound again.

This is a return-visit arc, not a combat solution. If an interaction is unavailable, confirm that you have completed the previous bridge or restaurant objective and are approaching the correct side of the area.

Rules VII–VIII: Gold Axe, the thicket, and the late-night pit

Rule VII: upgrade the axe and revisit the thicket

Rule VII has an explicit tool gate: upgrade to a Gold Axe. It then repeatedly sends you to the named thicket before 5 p.m.:

  1. Reach the thicket before 5 p.m.
  2. Cross it with Sazanka.
  3. Return before 5 p.m.
  4. Cross it with Komako.
  5. Return before 5 p.m. again.
  6. Search the thicket for the sacred object.

The place names “thicket” and “pass” are editorial translations. The extracted objectives do not establish a universally optimal route through the area or explain every choice made during the crossings.

The Gold Axe requirement and the before-5-p.m. checks come from the Rule VII quest objectives. They do not prove that every earlier axe tier is required for the story. Check your Anvil for the actual upgrade inputs before gathering gold.

Rule VIII: return, choose, then go to the pit

The final supported arc begins by returning to the village. You then receive a choice about helping Kisuke protect the village. After that decision point, the record asks you to go to the large pit at night and includes a defeat-the-land-god objective.

This guide stops at that point because the evidence does not support a complete boss strategy, choice-consequence chart, or ending count. For combat fundamentals, see the Village in the Shade combat guide. For outcome-specific information, use the separate ending guide rather than assuming that the quest-record order proves every branch.

What this walkthrough cannot confirm

The extracted quests establish objective sequences inside each Rule and show when the game expects a return visit. They do not establish:

  • Exact calendar days, universal unlock dates, or delays between objectives.
  • A single global order for every Helping task or Rule arc.
  • Choice consequences or the total number of endings.
  • Chest locations, boss patterns, puzzle solutions, or guaranteed rewards.
  • Current English Patch 1.30 behavior on every platform.

When the game does not advance, use the most conservative check: read the active objective, confirm the time requirement, carry the requested item, revisit the named NPC, and inspect whether the objective asks for a second report. Unknown timing is not evidence that a quest is broken.

FAQ

What should I do first in the Village in the Shade story?

Learn the daily loop, complete available Helping tickets, and report each result. Rule II requires finishing the Helping sequence, reporting to Rin, delivering catalog items at the chief’s estate, and reporting to Rin again.

How many sour sap do I need for Rule III?

The extracted quest objective specifies two sour sap for Hasumi. This is from the build-25311578 data snapshot, not a current English playtest.

When do I need the Gold Axe?

Rule VII explicitly asks you to upgrade to a Gold Axe before the repeated thicket visits. The objective also requires reaching the named thicket before 5 p.m.

Does this guide explain the ending?

No. It identifies the Rule VIII choice involving Kisuke and the later nighttime pit objective, but it does not claim a complete boss route, choice chart, or ending count.
