Village in the Shade Story: Kagatsu and Its Rules Without Major Spoilers
Village in the Shade introduces a protagonist arriving in Kagatsu, a mountain community where farming and friendships coexist with a strict village code.
What is the story’s starting point?
The official English site presents Kagatsu as a Japanese mountain village where you begin a new rural life. Planting crops, caring for animals, decorating, and meeting residents form the everyday setting for a darker mystery.

The Japanese story page supplies the original premise. Use those descriptions to orient yourself; this overview does not identify a secret culprit or assign the protagonist an undocumented hidden identity.
Who introduces the village?
The official character material identifies Komako as the first villager the protagonist meets. Rin is the village leader, with a strong sense of responsibility and concern for the village code. They have different roles; the names should not be swapped in a beginner summary.
The existing character guide introduces the officially presented residents. Exact favorite gifts and event triggers require their own evidence and are not inferred from a character’s personality.
Why do the rules matter?
The English promotion highlights warnings about strangers, leaving the village, and going out at night. The full code contains eight rules. Following or confronting those restrictions is central to how the setting becomes unsettling.
For the complete wording and spoiler boundaries, read the dedicated rules page rather than treating the three promotional examples as the entire list.
Should you look up the ending first?
Only if that is how you prefer to experience the mystery. Personal events, night encounters, and the finale can reveal information far beyond the opening premise. A video labeled “Happy Ending” is a creator’s title, not automatically the game’s official name for a branch.
If you want the everyday simulation with less frightening material, investigate the starting mode choice before creating the save. A mode guide is more useful for that decision than a spoiler-heavy plot explanation.
