The developers describe the villager relationships as non-romantic. In Famitsu’s interview, Katsumata says that increasing affinity does not lead to romance, although special events are available at high affinity.

That makes the relationship system different from a farming sim built around choosing a partner. Friendship can be rewarding without producing a dating status, wedding, or spouse benefit. The English-language developer interview published by Console Creatures also discusses the decision to avoid making marriage the final objective.
How should you approach the villagers?
Start with the resident’s role in Kagatsu and the activities the game has actually unlocked. The official friendship feature introduces social interaction as part of everyday life.
Use conversations, appropriate gifts, and requests to learn more about a character. Treat a personal invitation or an affectionate scene in its narrative context. Neither is proof that an undocumented romance route has started.
For an unfamiliar gift or event, keep the item’s actual in-game name and the scene’s prerequisites in your notes. A screenshot from another language can help identify the event, but a translated name alone is not enough to infer an exact affinity threshold.
What should story-focused players expect?
The appeal is learning who these people are and how they fit into the village’s rules. Some discoveries belong to the main mystery, so a spoiler-light character introduction is a better first stop than a late-game event compilation.
